It can be a challenge to keep it simple when cooking with cannabis. That’s why we use Rick Simpson Oil to make an Olive or Avocado Oil that is easy to use. You can apply the infused oil directly to your food, make Salad dressings with it or even cook with it! See our recipe below.
Before you begin, let’s determine the potency of the oil you are making. Tackling the math is the most challenging part of this process! When making a cooking oil, you will want it to be a low enough potency that you can consume a whole serving of the oil. Let’s use 1 Teaspoon as the target amount of oil in one serving. You can adjust the potency of your oil by using the formula I am giving you here. You will be putting the entire contents of one gram of RSO into your oil. The total potency of the 1 gram of RSO will be the potency of the entire amount of oil you mix the RSO into. Here are some relevant conversions:
1 ounce = 29 ml
1 Teaspoon = 5 ml
1 Tablespoon = 15 ml
However many ounces you use multiply it by 29 to find out how many ml are in the ounce. For example: if you use 12 ounces as per this recipe 12 fluid ounces x 29ml = 348 ml which is the same as 12 fluid ounces. Once you have converted your total volume into ml, then you can divide the total mg potency of your RSO by the total ml of the amount of oil you are using. This will give you a mg/ml ratio of your oil:
For example: Let’s say 1 gram of RSO contained 567mg of CBD. You are using 12 fluid ounces of Olive Oil which translates to 348ml of Olive oil.
The following equation will give you the total mg of CBD in 1 ml of your olive oil.
Divide: 567 mg CBD / 348ml = 1.62mg CBD per 1 ml of Olive Oil.
The target teaspoon would be calculated this way 1.62 x 5 ml = 8.1mg CBD in a teaspoon.
You can adjust the potency of your oil by adding more of less Olive Oil to your mixture and recalculating the totals.
(1) 12 ounce bottle organic Olive Oil or Avocado Oil
(1) gram RSO
(1) Glass Bottle (you can even use the bottle the Oil came in)
Pour the contents of your Olive Oil or Avocado Oil into a sauce pan. Turn a stove burner on to the absolute lowest heat setting possible. Place the pan on that burner. Warm the oil. Then squeeze out the entire contents of 1 gram syringe of RSO into the warm oil. At this point you can turn your burner off. Stir the oil and RSO mixture until the RSO is completely dissolved (less than 1 minute). Pour RSO infused oil into your glass bottle of choice.
Now you have a bottle of RSO infused oil that will have the same potency of the total milligram rating of your RSO. You can now use this as a base to make Cannabis Infused Salad dressings or any variety of other recipes. Please note that if you cook with the Oil, depending on the temperature and time you cook with it, some of the cannabinoids will convert into CBN due to decarboxylation. See the education page on edibles for questions on decarboxylation. Happy Eating!
